BET&R was founded in 1997 by Principal Consultant and Technical Director Jim Carlson in response to a growing need for a quality and detail-oriented full service building envelope consulting firm capable of providing its clients with practical, real-world solutions drawn from advanced knowledge in the fields of roofing, waterproofing, and cladding science.

Building Envelope Technology & Research (BET&R) is a quality-oriented technical consulting and design firm specializing in building envelope science, including roofing, waterproofing, wall cladding, fenestration, sealant, and flashing technologies. BET&R offers a broad array of technical services to assist our Clients with their unique building envelope needs.
Each potential repair or retrofit design project offers a unique set of challenges and considerations. BET&R's design team provides a comprehensive range of retrofit design services, from preparation of simple scopes of repair to complete retrofit and repair project manuals, including technical specifications and detail drawings.
Building envelope surveys provide a sound basis for our Clients to understand the existing conditions and useful service life of their project's envelope components, and to make informed, cost-effective decisions for the future of their facilities. BET&R provides surveys for roofing, waterproofing, cladding, and fenestration individually, in combination, or for the building envelope as a whole.
In the field, BET&R's in-situ analysis and diagnostic testing services include; moisture analysis including electronic moisture meter, Vaisala, calcium chloride, and numerous other testing services. BET&R also conducts cladding and fenestration pressurized water testing services following ASTM- and some AAMA- standard protocols for window, door, and skylight water testing.
